Where did you grow up and where are you now?
I grew up in a very small village in the west of Germany. At the age of 19, I moved out of my parents’ home and into my first own small apartment in Düsseldorf, the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia. Within Düsseldorf, I’ve moved two more times and have now been living here for a total of a little over 5 years.
What does your professional career look like and how did you get there?
After graduating high school, I completed an apprenticeship as a media designer for digital and print media with focus on design and technology at an advertising agency. However, I quickly realized that I definitely wanted to continue studying afterwards and go to University. That’s why I began studying communication design. To gain more experience and, of course, earn money, I have been working as a working student in the marketing and design department of an IT company for about a year and a half now, supporting various teams with pitch and acquisition presentations for different clients.
What do you see yourself doing in the future/ what do you want to do?
Through my studies, I wanted to find out what I’m really good at and what I truly enjoy. I’ve realized that my interests are strongly focused on topics like corporate design, branding and marketing. That’s why, in the future, I see myself working in an in-house creative department for a brand that I can identify with and whose values I support and can stand behind. The most important thing for me is to always have fun in what I do, surrounded by great colleagues, so that work doesn’t feel like work. I‘m excited to see where my path will take me.
What are some of your hobbies outside of work?
If you count traveling as a hobby, then it’s definitely at the top of my list. I love exploring new countries and cities and having the opportunity to see more of the world. So far, I’ve visited 17 countries, and I‘m so excited to see even more - especially in the Asian regions. Some of my favorite travel destinations this year definitely include Lisbon and Copenhagen. You’ll also see many pics of these cities in my Dupe feed. Copenhagen, in particular, is full of amazing architecture, many museums, and aesthetic spots - definitely one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful city I’ve visited in Europe so far.
In what ways do you express yourself creatively?
If you‘d ask my mother, she‘d probably say that I started expressing my creativity very early on. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been painting and drawing. In my earliest memories, I’m sitting at our family computer with my dad, picking out coloring pages from the internet that he would print for me so I could color them in. I’ve always loved crafting, whether it was making my first-grade school cone or handmade gifts for my friends and family. As I got older, I also discovered digital design more and more and taught myself programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. To this day, the Adobe Creative Suite is still one of my favorites, even in my professional life. As I grew up, cooking also became a creative passion of mine. I love trying out new recipes and cooking for my friends. My go-to recipe for the best appetizer is a beetroot carpaccio with arugula and toasted pine nuts - hmu if you want the recipe.
When did you start with photography?
Photography came into my life at an early age. I can’t quite remember how old I was, but my parents bought a Canon EOS 500D DSLR camera back then, and from that point on, I knew that I really enjoyed photography. I literally used that camera every day, photographing the most random things to familiarize myself with the camera and all its settings. I also attended photography courses and continue to photograph passionately to this day. My current camera is the Fuji X-T30 II - in my opinion, one of the best cameras for aesthetic photos because you can shoot with built-in film simulations, which create a very special look for the images.
Which apps on your phone do you use every day?
My top 3 apps would have to be:
WhatsApp (common thing in Europe to text there instead of messages)
TikTok (my comfort app to get my daily dose of good laughs)
Spotify (obviously)
How has Dupe helped you creatively?
I think Dupe is a great platform to get inspired, but also to offer inspiration to others. Every day I discover new creators whose content I find really exciting. Especially from a professional perspective, I think Dupe has a lot of potential. I remember spending hours at work searching for authentic stock images on various websites and never finding the right one. I’m excited to see more and more people actively using the app, so the image database continues to grow.
